Waterproofing Onewheel Shoes
Before moving to Vancouver Island, I was somewhat of a weather snob. I would not ride if there was even a chance of rain. Admittedly though, Calgary does have the most sunny days per year out of all of Canada. In previous years, I had packed my onewheels away for the winter.
So I decided that if I don’t ride in the rain, then my opportunities to ride will be few and far between. And you know what? After breaking the seal, so to speak, I found out that Onewheeling in the rain is actually a little bit fun! There is less pedestrian traffic gives a little freedom to travel areas the might normally raise eyebrows 😈. The lowered traction will challenge your Onewheeling skills ultimately making you a better rider. And, there is a relaxing feeling that comes with being outside when it’s raining. What’s not to like?
Cold Wet Feet
Having wet shoes is bad enough, but wet and cold feet will quickly kill anyone’s vibe.
My old Chuck Taylor High Tops did say waterproof on the box, unfortunately, the canvas outer material still tends to soak up a lot of water.

Is the Onewheel XR Waterproof?
Onewheels are not waterproof. The manufacturer of the Onewheel claims water resistance but even that is debatable.
Can You Ride A Onewheel In The Rain?
You can ride a Onewheel just about anywhere. Where you ride is your choice. Again you could kill your Onewheel. Ride your Onewheel in the rain or water AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Atsko Silicone Water-Guard
Atsko Silicone Water-Guard is a spray-on waterproofing restoration aerosol. Renew waterproofing while maintaining breathability. Suitable for use on outerwear as well as footwear and others. Basically, if you want something to repel water simply spray it with Atsko Silicone Water-Guard, wait then watch rain and water just bead right off. We have also had success using it to waterproof some outerwear over at Weekender Van Life.sko
Time to try this stuff out.
The Treatment – Applying Atsko Silicone Water-Guard
Application is easy, the instructions do say not to invert the can. After removing the laces we propped open the tongue area with a piece of cardboard. Then sprayed it on evenly until all the material looked wet. The material looked to soak up the spray like butter on a toasted English Muffin. Extra Butter Please!
I read some reviews saying the smell is overpowering, I guess this could be true for some. But if you have spent any real-time in the trades or manufacturing industries this will smell like flowers.
