Insta360 X3 – Review – The Best Action Camera For Onewheel
I have wanted a 360 camera for the longest time, but a few common gripes prevented me from trying one. But now, the upgrades and improvements to the X3 have fixed the main problems holding me back, so I finally pulled the trigger and purchased the Insta360 X3.
X3 Most Exciting Features
2.29” Touchscreen
Having a sizable touchscreen to control and change settings makes a huge difference in camera usability. You can quickly see how good this screen is to review your footage. Also, when you swipe and press through the settings, strong haptic vibrations confirm your selections.
1/2″ 48MP sensors
While it’s not as big as the 1” sensors in Insta360’s Flagship One-RS, they are apparently twice as big as the One-X2 sensors. This means better
Active HDR
The new X3 offers Stabilized HDR footage with its Active HDR. This will be great as a Onewheel rider always on the move.
Other 360 Camera Options I Considered Before Buying The Insta360 X3
I remember salivating over just about every consumer-level 360 camera since the release of the insta360-OneX. I considered buying the X2, then had the same feelings about the GoPro Max. I would have liked to experience these cameras firsthand, but with things being what they are I am happy with my decision to wait until now.

X3 Accessories Selections
Insta360 offers its cameras in many activity-specific bundles. Snow sports enthusiasts along with bike and motorcycle riders get a dedicated bundle to help get the best shots. After looking through the bundle selections I opted to put together my own accessories order including the following selections.
Insta360 70cm Invisible Selfie Stick
It seems the most common selfie stick people use is the 120cm Invisible Selfie Stick. I instead opted for the 70cm insta360 Invisible Selfie Stick, as I planned to attach a tripod base that will give it an extra 20 cm of length when being handheld.
Insta360 X3 Utility Frame
Using the Insta360 X3 Utility Frame is a great way to accessorize your camera. Extra ¼” screw holes, as well as cold shoe mounts, means you can attach a multitude of mics and lights, all while being protected by a rugged aluminum frame.
Lens Cap
The X3 lens cap is a rubber boot-style cap that slips over the top of the camera when not in use. This would be a must-have accessory except for the fact that the utility frame comes with its own lens cap. Given the fact my X3 will live in the frame, I wish I knew this in advance and I would have forgone the purchase of the standard lens cap.
X3 Sticky Lens Guards
It seems that no matter who you ask, everyone recommends installing Sticky Lens Guards. I would have included them in my camera purchase except for the fact they were out of stock. I found these aftermarket X3 Sticky Lens Guards on Amazon to use instead.
Using The Camera
Having never used any other brand or model of 360 camera I cannot comment that this camera is easier than others to use. What I can say is that using the touchscreen to navigate and control settings is incredibly easy. The settings and functions are laid out in a way that is intuitive and quick to use, and the external buttons, like the record button, are easy to press, even with gloves on.

Insta360 X3 App
While you don’t need the app to use the camera, using the app to post produce your footage, I found it to be a lot of fun. The process is relatively easy and with some practice, it becomes a seamless process. Offering countless different ways to edit and adjust your footage, you really are only limited by your imagination.
Insta360 X3 – Will It Float
The X3 makes it so easy to create exciting and entertaining videos. The editing process, while straightforward once you get the handle of it, could be tricky for some. Without a doubt, the insta360 X3 is my new favorite camera and my go-to choice when making onewheel focused content.
