Fishbones – Onewheel Front Concave Review
The ingenuity of Onewheel riders never ceases to amaze me. This comb-like design, with plastic fins that elevate above the sensor, I mean how does one think of that? Genius?! A creative solution to a difficult problem.
What are Fishbones?
Fishbones are a stick-on Onewheel Footpad overlay, that solves the problem of Front Concave. Read all about Fishbones in this detailed article.
What Onewheel Do Fishbones Fit?
Fishbones have a model to fit both the Onewheel XR and the Onewheel Pint. Also available is their Manta-Ray wide-body pint model. The Fishbones featured are the V1C2 version.
What’s In The Bag?
- The Bones
They are definitely a unique product! A close look at the Bones shows some cool patterns created during the manufacturing process. 😲
- Spare set of Velcro (I will try not to lose these)
- Cleaning Swab
- Filleting Tool (I probably won’t use this until I change my Griptape.)
- Instructions
- Stickers
Installing The Fishbones
Installing the Fishbones was relatively straight forward, by simply following the included instructions.
Clean the Griptape
Our Griptape is lightly used, so we cleaned it up with a Grout Brush and Abrasive Belt Cleaner.
Dab N Swab
Using the included alcohol cleaning swab to dab away dust and grime. I think it helped 🤔
Stick N Clamp
The instructions recommend applying pressure for the duration of the curing time. We used some quick clamps to help with this.
Wait
Fortunately, we had rainy weather this week, what better time to have your board out of commission for 24 hrs while the adhesive cures.
Billet Grille For Your Onewheel
The first thing that came to mind when looking at an installed set of Fishbones in person. Now you can get a custom black billet grille for your Onewheel!
Now Its Time For The Onewheel Fishbones Review – How Do Fishbones Ride?
Fishbones First Impressions
The first thing I noticed was how “locked-in” my front foot felt. I normally do a little heel or toe pivot to adjust stance, but with the raised area of Fish Grip, your front foot is securely held in place!
I have to admit, I had some hesitation about how secure the Velcro connection would be. But my concerns were quickly put to rest after spending a little time on the board.
Carving
Now you can really use the ball of your foot to press down into your toeside carves!
Furthermore, when slaying lines over the local green space, I found my grass hill carves laying down to new-found depths.
Trails
Off-road trails are where the Fishbones really shine. When hitting bumps and roots, the raised Fish Skin grip reduces foot movement and the pocket works as a guide to help your foot land in the right place.
When sessioning our local MTB skills park, I found Fishbones giving me the confidence to take higher lines.
Onewheel Fishbones Review – Will It Float?
I am hugely impressed with Fishbones! They give increased comfort and control at a reasonable price. They boost confidence and without a doubt let you “carve harder and ride longer”.
If you are on the fence, jump, it’s time to get on the Fishbones Bandwagon!
