Onewheel night rides are awesome, but that stoke can quickly fade if you unwittingly hit a pothole or bump that sends you to the ground. Yes, the Onewheel has headlights, but with the beam so low to the ground, even small objects cast big shadows making it hard to see and avoid bumps. Headlamp VS Flashlight For Riding Onewheel At Night

I was dubious at first and roughed it out doing night rides with a flashlight as a supplement to my Onewheel’s stock headlights. Light where you are looking when you need it. Really, the only good thing about going handheld is not blinding your friends. 900 lumens is bright AF. Without a doubt, the best accessory for riding Onewheel at night is a good headlamp.

Is The Petzl Swift RL Best Headlamp To Use With A Onewheel?

That is the one hundred and something dollar question. It has to be close? Either way, a quality high output headlamp should seriously be considered if you plan on doing Onewheel Night Rides

Things I Like About The Petzl Swift RL

Battery Life Indicator 
  • Illuminated battery life indicator lights up to show battery percentage. This is great. 
Reactive Lighting
  • The Petzl Swift RL uses it’s Reactive Lighting Technology to automatically adjust output. This works well to both conserve battery as well as to help with close proximity reflections. More light is not always better. 
USB Rechargeable 
  • Recharging is conveniently done using a micro USB port.

Water-Resistant 
  • The Petzl Swift RL has a IPX4 water resistance rating. This is good, you never know when it will rain.

  • At 100g or 3.53oz this headlamp is lightweight. This helps it to stay in place. Perfect for long rides.

How does the Petzl Swift RL work?
  • The Petzl Swift RL is controlled via a single, locking On-Off button. You can cycle through the brightness levels with single presses. Switch between Reactive Lighting and Standard Lighting with a long press.
How do I change the battery in my Petzl Swift RL?
  • The battery is accessed by twisting the lamp all the way all the way around inside the strap bracket. The battery can then be clipped in and out. One great thing about the Swift RL Battery is the ability to charge without the battery being installed in the headlamp.
Does Petzl Swift RL have a red light?
  • Unfortunately, no. For me however, this is not a problem as our main use will need the highest output levels.

Petzl Swift RL Headlamp Review – Will It Float? 

Yes, This headlamp is what you need. The reactive dimming feature works well. It is light and powerful. The combination spot/ wide beam casts great light. The battery has a decent life, and it is compact and lightweight. It is pricey, but I am happy with my purchase. Get yourself a good headlamp and go Onewheel your favorite trails at night, you will have fun, guaranteed.

    The reactive feature sounds very nice, do you think it would detect headlights to prevent blinding oncoming cars? Also, how do you keep it secured on your helmet?

      Hey Dede, thanks for commenting. It does sense the light from cars and turns down the power. This head lamp has three levels of reactive lighting, so if you were still concerned you can just drop it down a notch. P.S. I sent you an email😉

        Hey I just wanted to thank you again. I bought the lamp and it is a game changer for me. It is basically like having a high beam on your forehead 🙂 Reactive is so smooth I could barely believe it at first. I can finally ride at night with confidence, the lamps makes it so much more pleasurable. I did have to remove the headband and replace it with an elastic velcro strap to attach it to my helmet but it wasn’t much trouble.

          Hi Dede, thanks for sharing. Yeah, the reactive lighting is super cool. It is very handy on foggy/misty trails. Full power tends to limit visibility in fog. I am happy you got some value from my article.
