Onewheel Life - Van Life and Everything In Between.

Onewheel Plus VS XR

September 29, 2018 by Ben

The Onewheel Plus and the Onewheel Plus XR are the only two real choices If you are in the market for a genuine Onewheel from Future Motion. Read on to find out how these two models line up in this head to head matchup, Onewheel Plus VS XR. May the best wheel win!

Onewheel Plus VS XR

Physical Comparison : Onewheel Plus VS XR

To the untrained eye, it is hard to tell the difference between the two models. Apart from the laser etched XR logo on the side or the black sliver that is the extended range battery, You would be hard pressed to notice the difference.  Winner: Draw

Weight Comparison : Onewheel Plus Weight VS Onewheel XR Weight

The Onewheel Plus weight is 25 Lbs  (11 Kg), this only 2 Lbs lighter than the Onewheel XR weight. The Onewheel XR weight checks in at 27 Lbs (11.5 Lbs). Although they are lugable in the case your battery dies, the addition of an aftermarket Onewheel handle will make carrying your Onewheel easier.  Winner: Onewheel Plus

Range Comparison : Onewheel Plus Range VS Onewheel XR Range

There is just no competition in this category. The Onewheel Plus Range is around 5-7 miles (8-11 km). While this is still very usable mileage. The Onewheel XR Range at 12-18 miles (19-29 km) is just “Game Changing”. On the XR you can ride all day or commute to work and back without charging.   Winner: Onewheel Plus XR

Speed Comparison : Onewheel Plus Speed VS Onewheel XR Speed

Although the top speed for both models is listed at 19 Mph (30 Kph) they can easily exceed this speed. The added torque and available power means the Onewheel XR speed will be consistently higher than Onewheel Plus speed.  Winner: Onewheel Plus XR

Charge Time Comparison : Onewheel Plus Charge Time VS Onewheel XR Charge Time

The Onewheel XR Charge Time is specified as 100 min. Although, when you can ride all day on a single charge, the charge time is not so important.. If you do need to charge your wheel in a hurry, the Onewheel Plus Charge time of 30 min cannot be beat.   Winner: Onewheel Plus

Honorable Mentions

Best to travel with

This one goes to the Onewheel Plus as the XR battery exceeds the TSA regulations for battery size. Regardless of battery size, traveling with your Onewheel, you will always run the risk of your onewheel not being allowed on the plane. Winner: Onewheel Plus

Price

Both of the Onewheel models are expensive. The added benefits of the Onewheel XR are worth the extra cost. If you are on a budget then the Plus could be your best bet. Realistically, unless you plan air travel with your Onewheel the th XR is the only choice.   Winner: Onewheel Plus XR

Onewheel Plus VS XR  : Draw

Ultimately, the Onewheel Plus VS XR competition, is very personal and the winner will depend on your individual situation. Most Onewheel fanatics own more than one.

I see another Onewheel in your future!
